Characteristics Of Spicy Essential Oils

Similar to the floral scent family of essential oils, spice essential oils are hard to define as the sheer number of options available provides manufacturers with a variety of different options when it comes to aroma. Despite this, the majority of spice essential oils all have one thing in common: potency.

Outside of the strength of the aroma, spice essential oils share very few characteristics. They can be extracted via steam distillation and are sourced from a spice’s root, stem, seed, fruit or bark, depending on the oil you are after.

What Do Spicy Essential Oils Smell Like?

Spicy essential oils typically have a strong, invigorating odour designed to add a potent, yet not overpowering smell to a range of different products.

Some of the most popular and most common spice scents include Allspice, Turmeric and Aniseed.

What Colours Are Spicy Essential Oils?

Despite the variety, the majority of spic essential oils all present within the same yellow colour range. Some oils such as turmeric have a pale, slightly yellow-green colour, whilst others such as clove bud fall towards the slightly darker, golden yellow side of the spectrum.

What Are Common Uses For Spicy Essential Oils?

Spicy essential oils find their way into many different end products. The most common use for essential oils within this category would be used in flavour preparations which are destined for beverage or baked goods manufacturers.

On the fragrance side, spice essential oils are frequently found in a selection of soaps and, more frequently, candles. Spice oils such as cinnamon, for example, partner great with an apple scent for a typically festive aroma.

What Can Spicy Oils Be Mixed With?

Spice essential oils can be mixed with almost any other scent family and provide an excellent partner to a myriad of scents including earthy, citrus and floral notes.
