Cistus essential oil is an oil extracted from a cistus ladaniferus plant and is also known as rock rose or labdanum. The oil has a sweet, honey like scent with floral and woody notes.
The oil is dark yellow to orange-brown in colour depending on its origin and distillation method used. Usually, steam distillation is used to extract the oil from the leaves and twigs of the cistus plant.
Origins of Cistus essential oil
Cistus essential oil is native to the western Mediterranean region. The cistus ladaniferus plant is a flowering shrub that is a part of the cistaceae family.
The plants can be found in Spain, Syria, Cyprus and Crete, these plants bloom during the warmer summer months of April through to June.
