What is Birch Tar?
Rectified birch tar is a deep dark brown essential oil that has an intense smoky, leathery scent that is very powerful and can be overpowering. Additionally, the oil should only be used in small quantities because of its strength.
The oil is extracted by distillation from the Betula pendula, also known as birch bark.
Origins of Birch Tar Oil
Rectified Birch Tar Oil is native to Russia and is created by purifying crude birch oil through re-distillation. Crude birch oil is originally obtained by slowly heating birch bark to a high temperature, a process known as destructive distillation.

Birch tar blends well with cedarwood, tobacco, oud and saffron oil as their strong scents complement each other when blended together.
