Sweet birch can also be known as black birch, cherry birch, mahogany birch or spice birch. Sweet birch essential oil is extracted by steam distillation from the tree bark which must be soaked for up to 12 hours before being ready for distillation.
The oil has a sweet, sharp, minty and fresh aroma which is often compared to Wintergreen. This essential oil is clear to light yellow in colour.

Sweet birch was used by North American natives as a tonic and beverage however it has also been used for arthritis as well as other joint and muscular aches and pains.
